Propeller 2 Multicore Microcontroller

Propeller 2 — Advanced Multicore Microcontroller
Propeller 2 builds on Parallax’s multicore architecture with substantially greater processing power, memory, and I/O capability for demanding embedded applications. Eight independent 32-bit cores operate concurrently, while Smart Pins and specialized hardware provide powerful capabilities for signal generation, measurement, communications, video, and real-time control. Propeller 2 combines this performance with the deterministic operation and direct hardware access that distinguish the Propeller architecture.
What Makes Propeller 2 Different
8 Independent Cores (Cogs)
Eight processors operate concurrently for true parallel execution.
High-Speed Processing
Significantly greater processing performance and memory than Propeller 1.
Smart Pins
Each I/O pin includes specialized hardware for measurement, timing, communications, waveform generation, and other functions.
Deterministic Real-Time Control
Direct hardware access and predictable execution make P2 particularly well suited to time-critical applications.

Start with the P2 Edge
The easiest way to develop with Propeller 2
The P2 Edge Module combines the Propeller 2 with the essential supporting circuitry in a compact module designed for both development and integration into finished products. Pair the P2 Edge with a carrier or development board for convenient power, programming, I/O connections, prototyping, and expansion.
Development Boards
Parallax offers P2 Edge modules, carrier boards, development boards, and accessories that make it easy to explore Propeller 2 without designing custom hardware first. Start with a complete development platform, then move the P2 Edge into your own hardware as the application develops.
Programming Propeller 2
Propeller 2 can be programmed using Spin2 and Propeller Assembly (PASM2), with several development environments available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Developers can choose between streamlined Propeller-specific tools and modern IDE-based development workflows.
A Growing Software Library
Propeller 2 is supported by an expanding collection of reusable drivers, libraries, demonstrations, and application code from Parallax and the Propeller community. OBEX provides software for communications, displays, sensors, storage, signal processing, motor control, and many other embedded applications.
Documentation & Getting Started
Propeller 2 is supported by extensive technical documentation covering chip architecture, electrical specifications, Spin2, PASM2, Smart Pins, hardware design, programming, and application development. Additional examples and Quick Bytes provide practical introductions to individual P2 capabilities.
Built for Demanding Applications
Propeller 2 is designed for embedded applications requiring multiple simultaneous real-time processes, high-speed I/O, precise signal generation and measurement, communications, video, instrumentation, and control. Its eight independent processors and 64 Smart Pins allow many functions that normally require additional peripherals or supporting circuitry to be implemented directly within the microcontroller.
